– Lono Hale
This page is preserved as an archive of pre-volcano Hedonisia Hawaii.
We are planning and preparing to return to our land and hope you can help us. We seek support to to help rebuild Hedonisia Hawaii after its destruction in the Kilauea volcanic eruption. Anyone can make a contribution, no matter how small. If you can’t donate simply post a little about our story on Social Media.
Lono Hale means ‘peaceful hut’. It is a beautiful shaded spot located towards the farthest corner of the property and is ideal for those who like privacy.
The east facing wall of Lono Hale is made of all screen! This provides a beautiful view of the sun rising, peaking through the palm trees next door.
As an eco-hostel we are always trying to reuse and recycle with our projects and this is one of our special creations. We built this hut around a tractor which was left on the property by the previous owner. We built this room so that one of the giant tires of the vehicle is still inside it.
We took old broken tents which would have been thrown away and cut them up, sewed them together and made a colorful patchwork to create the walls of the hut to mosquito proof it!
Enjoy this space while you can as it is a temporary structure which we will be taking down as soon as the price of steel rises to the point where it is feasible to recycle it.
This Lodging is also available under the: Fair-Trade Volunteer Program Sustainable Community Manager Internship While we cannot guarantee you will stay in this lodging space if you are in one of the above programs, we do try to honor volunteer and Intern requests based on availability, work ethic and how well participants ‘fit’ into the Hedonisia community.
